What To Recycle? - Here's a handy chart to help sort out what you should and shouldn't here.

Recycling containers are once again available. You can pick up a recycling can from 6:45am til 3:00pm Monday thru Friday (412) 856-3343. Monroeville Public Works, 200 Starr Drive, Monroeville, PA 15146


Monroeville recycles the following five types of containers:

- Aluminum Cans (Remove Labels)
- Tin and Steel Cans (Remove Labels)
- Clear Glass Bottles and Jars
- Colored Glass Bottles and Jars
- Plastic Bottles #1 thru #7

Wash all containers thoroughly.
Flatten plastic containers.
Remove labels from cans only.

Monroeville residents may purchase a blue recycling can for $15 each (*see exceptions below) at:

Directions from Intersection Rt. 22 & 48
Follow Rt. 48 - Haymaker Rd. (Orange Belt) North (about .7 mi.)
Bear right onto Center Rd. (Orange Belt) North (about .6 mi.)
Turn left onto Old Frankstown Rd. North (about .3 mi.)
Turn left onto Thelray Dr. then left onto Shumaker Dr. (about .1 mi.)
Turn right onto Starr Dr. to Public Works Building

* $15 fee waived for residents who have moved into the Municipality within one (1) year or if a blue recycling container is damaged by a Municipal recycling truck. If so, please attempt to inform the Public Works Dept. the time and date the recycling container was damaged.

Recycling Rules For Common Items


BEFORE placing appliances at the curb for garbage collection, a CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN MUST remove the FREON.

The following is a list of companies who will remove the freon and place a sticker on the appliance.

Leaf Recycling Schedule (State Mandated)

Second week in April
Second week in October thru first week in December

Residents can also call for a pickup of bagged leaves or drop off leaf bags at our compost site at the Public Works Dept. 200 Starr Dr. year round...all we ask is to call first (412 856-3343) so we can open the gate and monitor what is being discarded.

Purchase special Monroeville biodegradable leaf bags at these locations:

Paint Cans

Place aside in a box clearly marked paint cans.
Auto Parts, Building Materials and Rocks WILL NOT be Collected

Tires - Can be recycled at the following locations:

Firestone & Goodyear - Monroeville Mall
NTB - 4175 Wm. Penn Hwy
Carlloyd Inc. - 2070 Monroeville Rd.

Tree Branches, Wood and Carpeting

Must be no longer than five feet,
and tied into bundles weighing no more than 35 lbs.

*NOTE - Tree branches will NO longer be picked up by Refuse Crews. They will be recycled. Residents who have tree branches can call the Monroeville Public Works at (412) 856-3343 to schedule a pick up.

Voluntary Paper & Cardboard Recycling

Recycle newspapers, magazines and cardboard at the following dumpster locations (Day or Night)

- Senior Citizen Center, Gateway Campus
- Public Works, 200 Starr Road
- Fire Companies #3 & #4
- Municipal Center, 2700 Monroeville Blvd.
- Monroeville Community Park East
