Monroeville Police Department Police Training Day

The Monroeville Police Department is offering an opportunity for area Departments to participate in a “day of training” instructed at the Monroeville Public Safety Training Center.

The goal of these reoccurring sessions is to provide current police officers with an economical and convenient way to receive training in areas that are often difficult to receive.

These are very intense one day classes designed to maximize the training received and allow officers a chance to sharpen their skills and to do their jobs safely.

Each session includes the following:

Defensive Tactics (2 hours)

Each officer will receive 2 hours of defensive tactics training. This training will include handcuffing, impact weapons, holds, and ground fighting. Emphasis on avoiding positional asphyxia and transportation issues will be included. (Departments may request OC and Taser Re- certification if required.)

High Speed Driving – Skid Avoidance Training (2 hours)

Officers will train in high speed braking and cornering techniques as well as skid control and avoidance using SkidCar Systems. SkidCar uses an actual Ford Crown Victoria patrol car outfitted with a hydraulic lift system to simulate speed and traction loss. SkidCar is a very safe method to driver train officers with the benefit of real G-forces and controls.

Firearms Training (4 hours)

Officers will receive four hours of range instruction on our 2 ranges. Training will focus on basic pistol, shotgun and patrol rifle drills. The training can be tailored to meet the needs of individual officers to work on problem areas, or drills to increase speed and accuracy. The ranges include turning targets and reactive steel. This is not a State qualification course! The course is designed for training and practice.

The cost of the one day course is $100 per officer. Each officer must provide his own weapon and ammunition.

Space is strictly limited to 20 officers per session. To register for a session, first check availability here: View the PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING CALENDAR
